Quick Good News
Hey! We’ve got some good news for you! But before we can tell you the good news there’s some bad news.
According to the Bible, we’ve all sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). Since God is Holy and Righteous, He cannot let sin go unpunished. Can you imagine a judge letting a convicted criminal just go free in a courtroom? Of course not; you’d be outraged at the corruption. That’s what we are in God’s eyes, convicted criminals, as the result of our sin. Well, the Creator of the universe is an incorruptible judge, so how much more perfectly will he punish than even earthly judges? Sin is our violation of God’s Holy standard, our rebellion against His authority.
We’re sure you know you’ve sinned, we all have a conscience. Conscience means “with knowledge”. This means we’ve committed moral wrongs, and deep down inside, we certainly know it! Ok, so that’s the bad news, we’ve all sinned and are actually condemned to eternity in hell as the result. John 3:18 This may seem extreme, but we’ve sinned against an infinitely perfect and Holy God, so eternal punishment is warranted. In fact, any breath taken after your first sin is an act of amazing mercy on God’s part!
So what’s the good news, you ask? About 2000 years ago, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who is fully God and became fully man into this world as He had promised in the scripture. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and then was sent to the cross to die a brutal, criminal’s death. The death we all deserve! When He was on the cross, He paid the penalty for sin to the Father in Heaven. 2 Corinthians 5:21. He was buried according to the scripture and raised 3 days later defeating death and offering justification for our sins! (1 Corinthians 15:3,4) (Romans 4:25)
John 3:16 says that sinners who have a real heart change about their sin and have a desire to stop sinning and are sorry for it can seek forgiveness through faith in Christ. Titus 3:5 and Ephesians 2:8-9 are clear that this forgiveness is offered as a free gift from God, one that cannot be earned. In fact, any attempt to earn it is seen as self-righteousness! So today is the day of salvation! Accept God’s free gift of salvation by truly repenting of your sin and putting your faith in Christ alone for forgiveness.
