Excerpt
I made a statement about amazing grace last Sunday night before I preached, but I — I sat there again thinking I’m amazed not only by amazing grace but I’m amazed that so many people, even the world, try to sing that song and yet they use the word “wretch like me.” And it doesn’t make any sense to me; you know what I’m saying? I think part of the problem is people don’t understand that it’s about sin. I think a lot of people just say it’s a song, it’s symbolism, it’s meant to say something that I don’t really understand, but I like the quaint tune and it brings back some haunting moments in my life, and I just think it’s Americana. I think it’s, you know, just a cool song. I remember Judy Collins sang that song when I was a young guy back probably 40 years ago, probably even longer, and I think it was a popular song on the charts. People just thought it was a great song, you know, just kind of had that melody. I think sometimes we can even be guilty at times to like songs just because we think the tune of a certain song might be toward our liking or brings back — let’s put it this way — sentimentality. We get some sentimental feelings towards a certain song, and perhaps the words do not add up and yet there’s a sentimentality about it that we enjoy, and I think that’s what happens to the world out there that does not believe, nor does it agree that they are a wretch because of their sin. And one of my convictions and commitments is this: I need to talk about sin.
Pastor Eric Cuenin of Berean Baptist Church explores the biblical explanation of what happens when babies die. Are they saved by grace or are they condemned to hell for not believing in the savior? Find out in this one part sermon given during Sanctity of Human Life month, 2010!
