Keys to Studying the Bible – Part 3

Presented August 28, 2011 by Pastor Eric Cuenin.

What is My Motivation?

  • Bookworms only, purely academic?
  • Because I’m told if you read your Bible and pray=Good Christian?
  • Parents and Church people tell me to have devotions, but why do I struggle and not want to do them?
  • Perhaps we are telling people to study & do devotions & something’s missing

  1. You want to know God, not just know about Him Phil.3:10. It’s more about relationship than it is about knowing facts and accounts. If you have a passion for God and His glory than it will transform your study.
  2. Develop an appetite for the Word Ps.119:131, stimulate your appetite.
  3. Be personally convinced of its value 2 Tim 3:16-17, otherwise you will not continue to seek it out.
  4. You will need to love the Word as a byproduct of loving God. If this doesn’t happen you are probably going to fail in your interest. Ps 119 It’s a struggle of the heart.
  5. You will need a definite sense of commitment. Ps 55:17; 119:62. You will not always feel like it, just like maybe this morning. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
